Mysuru: Noting that renowned Historian Prof. D.S. Achyuth Rao’s (DSA) family members had a lot of interest in History, Prof. K. Sadashiva of the Department of Studies in History, University of Mysore (UoM), said that Prof. Achyuth Rao’s published research articles are very much useful for history students even today.
He was presiding over a National seminar on ‘The relevance of Prof. D.S. Achyuth Rao’s writings in current times’ jointly organised by the Department of History, UoM and Prof. D.S. Achyuth Rao Centenary Programme, Bengaluru at the Junior B.A. Hall of Maharaja’s College here on Wednesday.
Pointing out that Prof. DSA’s family members had instituted an endowment fund of Rs. 7 lakh in the UoM several years ago, Prof. Sadashiva said the fund was being utilised for organising Prof. DSA Memorial Lecture Series in UoM and Maharaja’s College.
Stating that Prof. DSA’s research work carried out between 1939 and 1964 have been published, he said that this event is aimed at throwing more light on the relevance of his works today.
D.A. Prasanna, son of Prof. DSA and Convenor of Prof. D.S. Achyuth Rao Centenary Programme, in his address said that Prof. DSA was an alumnus of Maharaja’s College and also served as a Professor at Manasagangothri.
Recalling his late father’s contribution to History research, he hoped that this event will help the students to realise Prof. DSA’s immense contribution to research in history.
On the occasion, Prasanna donated a huge portrait of DSA to Maharaja’s College and UoM.
Earlier, Maharaja’s College Principal Prof. C.P. Sunitha inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Maharaja’s College faculty members Dr. Srikanta and Dr. R.D. Pavamana were present.
