Seeks 5-acre CA site from MUDA

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) has proposed to construct two more hostels in the wake of increase in the enrolment of students to various courses offered by  the Varsity.

“We have sought funds from Department of Social Welfare. Along with it, a proposal has been submitted to Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for allotment of a Civic Amenity (CA) site measuring a minimum of five acres. The hostels construction work will begin once we get the funds and land,” said UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar.

According to him, the number of students seeking hostel facility has doubled in the last five years. It was the responsibility of the Varsity to provide hostel facility on par with the demand. Arrangements are made for the additional staff members and for necessary infrastructure. At present, 1.29 lakh students have enrolled for various courses and 26,000 students receive degree every year. The demand for new courses was on par with that demand for higher education. There are 17 hostels in Manasagangothri and one each in Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar. In total , there are 3,200 students but there was not much of hostels in tune with demand.

Final exams from Mar 13

The VC said the second and final year examination of BA, B.Com and B.Sc courses will begin from March 13 and will end in the first week of April. Exams will be held as per COVID-19 protocol. The classes will resume after the examination, he added.

Convocation next month

The VC said the Varsity convocation is likely to be held during the end of next month for which preparations are on. The Governor’s permission has been sought to constitute a committee for the selection of candidates to bestow honorary doctorates.
