UoM Syndicate cancels Library Assistants’ promotion

Mysuru: The Syndicate of the University of Mysore (UoM) has taken a decision to cancel the promotion given to 11 Library Assistants as Assistant Librarians.

This decision was taken at the Syndicate Meeting held on Mar.5. The issue came up before the Syndicate, as it had come to light during the audit by the Accountant General’s office that the promotion given to the 11 Library Assistants was invalid.

The issue was brought to the notice of the government and in turn, the Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, had written a letter to the In-Charge Vice-Chancellor to cancel the promotions, said a source in the University.

The promotions were given during the term of a former Vice-Chancellor and after thorough scrutiny based on the UGC guidelines of 2006, it was found that the promotions were invalid as the Assistant Librarian’s post must be a direct appointment and not through promotion, said the source.

The members of the Syndicate, on the direction of the Principal Secretary, decided to cancel the promotions given to the Library Assistants.

Chairmanship withdrawn

Another major decision taken during the meeting was to withdraw the chairmanship of former in-charge VC Prof. Dayananda Mane who was heading the Public Administration Department in UoM, besides also withdrawing him from guide duties.

This decision was taken as there is an official complaint of sexual harassment against him, which had been brought to the notice of the Syndicate.

In another case against Prof. Mane, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mysuru, has sought a report against him regarding the corruption charges with relation to the appointment of Guest Lecturers.  The ACB has written to the University seeking all the details of the appointment, said the sources in the University.

Meanwhile, when SOM tried to contact Prof. Mane, he was not available for his reactions.
