Mysore/Mysuru: Depressed over her husband’s death, a woman allegedly committed suicide at Coimbatore Colony near Ratnapuri, in Hunsur taluk yesterday.
Savithri (47), wife of Dore (55) is the deceased woman. Savithri took the drastic step to commit suicide by consuming pesticide, soon after her ailing husband was found dead on returning home. They are natives of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
Dore, who was eking out a living as a farm labourer had gone to K.R. Nagar on work three months ago, when he met with an accident. Since then, Dore was being treated at a hospital in K.R. Nagar and Savithri had to take loan from private banks to meet the expenses towards her husband’s treatment.
A week ago, she had brought her husband home and was taking care of him. As Dore was bed ridden, Savithri, who was also a daily wager, was leaving for work after giving food and medicine to him. When she returned home yesterday during lunch, she found her husband dead. Dejected, Savithri took the extreme step by ending her life.
The neighbours, who suspected something fishy as Savithri did not step out of the house though the door was open, went inside to find the couple dead.
The couple leaves behind a son and a daughter, who are married and living separately.
Hunsur Rural Police have registered a case.
