Sir,
This is with reference to the news item ‘Stray dog attacks nine persons’ in SOM dated Aug. 16. Time and again, similar reports have surfaced in your daily, as seen again on the 17th, yet there has been no concrete response or action from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
The attached picture shows a 20-metre stretch of the 4th Main Road in front of my house, where at least 14 stray dogs can be counted. These dogs feed on the wet waste thrown into a large open area nearby, which has remained vacant since the layout was established.
Additionally, the road could be better illuminated. Gokulam 3rd Stage, a hub of yoga activity, attracts foreigners who, out of compassion, often pat and feed these street dogs. Some residents also feed them with leftovers and biscuits, seemingly unaware that rabies is a fatal disease with no cure currently available.
Can we hope that the MCC authorities will wake up and take immediate, decisive action to control the street dog population?
– Dr. C.G. Narasimhan, Gokulam 3rd Stage, 18.8.2024
