Participating in debates boosts communication, analytical skills: Cardiologist Dr. G. Keshava Murthy
Mysore/Mysuru: Debates play a crucial role in enhancing the thinking capacity of students and help them analyse complex issues, said Brigadier Prof. (Dr.) G. Keshava Murthy, Senior Interventional Cardiologist.
He was speaking at the ‘V. Narayanrao Memorial’ 30th State-level Inter-Collegiate Kannada Debate Competition organised at The Anathalaya premises on N.S. Road recently. The topic of the debate was ‘Excessive innovations in technology are responsible for today’s global conflicts.’
“Participation in debates helps in skill enhancement, improves communication abilities and strengthens analytical thinking. It also builds public confidence,” Dr. Keshava Murthy said.
Emphasising the importance of discipline, he noted that punctuality, discipline, studies and attitude shape an individual’s personality. “Discipline builds confidence to face challenges. Hard work, dedication and intelligence are key to success. Students must be willing to sacrifice comforts during their academic years to acquire knowledge and achieve career growth,” he added.
Highlighting opportunities in the armed forces, Dr. Keshava Murthy shared his experiences from a 34-year career in the Army and Air Force as a doctor. “I have been part of three wars, including the Kargil War and Operation Sindoor. My service in the armed forces has been a highly distinguished experience,” he recalled.
In the competition, C.R. Devika of Vidyavardhaka Law College won the first prize, while R. Kusuma Bai, an M.Sc (Chemistry) student from Manasagangothri, secured the second prize. Medhini Bhat of Vidyashrama Degree College bagged the third prize while Vidya Vikas Law College bagged consolation prize.
The first prize carried a cash award of Rs. 8,000, followed by Rs. 5,000 for second prize and Rs. 3,000 for the third. Anathalaya President C.V. Gopinath, Vice-President N.V. Dinesh, Secretary Ashwathnarayan and others were present.
