Valuable assets and vision for a growing city

July 27, 2024

Sir,

We have two very valuable assets in the form of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne building in their dilapidated condition.

Lot has been said and discussed about these two ad nauseam. Spending any more money on these two is a futile exercise.

Devaraja Market is not able to accommodate the large number of vendors  who need this place and presently has very limited space for expansion. Facilities are limited and even with refurbishment, its life is limited.

We have home grown builders who have established their credentials by delivering on time the task assigned to them. Sankalp, Brigade, Sobha to name a few. By handing over these assets to any one or two would make matters simple and value accretive for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).

They can assess the demand, plan accordingly and deliver on time. Corporation can earn lease money without any investment or effort. Limited or restricted scope for scam.

Lansdowne building can be used as a multilevel car park which can provide covered parking for all those shop owners who have a need in D. Devaraja Urs Road and its surroundings. When this arrangement is made, casual visitors who use the road can pay parking charges as applicable. A serious thought should be given to hand over these properties for early execution and maintenance.

– R. Subramanyan, Mysuru, 25.7.2024

Note: Already lakhs of rupees is paid to consultants and repairs even as these buildings keep collapsing in different parts. The suggestion for a car parking facility must be taken seriously by the MCC, our MLAs and MP. —Ed
