Various contests held

Mysuru: Over 500 people, students and staff, gathered at ATME College of Engineering on Bannur Road in city to celebrate International Women’s Day on Mar.15.

Dr. Farath Khanum, Scientist-G, DFRL, Mysuru, inaugurated the event. Addressing the audience, she dwelt on the problems faced by women across time and transitioned to speaking about the challenges that exist for women in today’s society. She acknowledged the battles fought by women to further the cause of women  empowerment in India.

Dr. L. Basavaraj, Principal of ATME, in his presidential address, lauded the heights that women have achieved in politics and other spheres in spite of the lack of a level playing field.

Dr. S.R. Bhagyashree was the organising chair of the event. Priyanka, N.P. Sneha, H.G. Shruthi, M.B. Darshini, M. Pooja, D. Arpitha and K.R. Sushmitha were coordinators of the event. Various events like Throwball, Dance, Debate, Quiz, Ethnic Walk, Rangoli, Dumb Charades and Cooking-without-Fire were conducted for students and staff as part of the celebrations.
