A one-day orientation programme on Goods and Services Tax (GST), focusing on Tally for GST was organised by the Department of Studies in Commerce, University of Mysore in association with Tally Education, Bengaluru, for UG and PG Commerce teachers at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Studies in Commerce, Manasagangothri here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, Prof. Yashwanth Dongre, Acting VC of Mysore University, said that the GST is a comprehensive indirect tax on manufacture, sale and consumption of goods and services throughout India, that replaces taxes levied by the Central and State Governments.
Pointing out that the introduction of GST is a significant step in the reform of indirect taxation in India, he said that its biggest advantage would be in terms of reduction in the overall tax burden on goods.
Observing that this programme provides a platform for sharing knowledge on the salient features of GST, he stressed on the need for organising more such seminars in order to enhance knowledge about GST.
Tally Education, Bengaluru’s Chief Executive Officer Manish Chowdhary delivered the keynote address.
Chairman of Board of Studies in Commerce Prof. H. Rajashekar, Chairman of DoS in Commerce Dr. B. Nagaraju, Tally Solutions, Bengaluru, Associate Vice-President T. Pugal, Co-ordinators Dr. N. Nagaraja, Dr. M.L. Ashoka and Chintamani Gowda were present.
About 100 UG and PG Commerce lecturers from several colleges coming under the Mysore University attended.
