Varsity Hostel workers’ stir continues

Mysore/Mysuru: The indefinite joint stir launched by University of Mysore (UoM) Hostel Workers and Swachhata Workers (House Keeping staff) under the banner of AIUTUC affiliated Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Vasatinilaya  Karmikara Sangha and Karnataka  Rajya Samyukta Vishwavidyalaya Swachhata Karya Noukarara Sangha, in front of the University Main Gate (near Kuvempu statue on Bogadi road) at Manasagangothri, continued for the second day today.

The protestors  are seeking fulfilment of their various  demands. While the UoM hostel workers are urging for fulfilment of their 10-point charter of demands, which chiefly included disclosure of PF and ESI payments made by the Labour contractor and filling up of all vacant posts, among others, the Swachhata workers are seeking payment of minimum wages fixed by the Labour Department, clearance of 12-month wage dues to over 50 Pourakarmikas serving in the University, hike in wages, issuance of Identity cards and distribution of uniforms, shoes and other safety equipment.

While the hostel workers are staging protest in turns and working in shifts so as not to  inconvenience the students, the Swachhata workers have completely stuck work, which has severely hit cleaning works in the UoM campus.

Former Mayor Narayana, Swaraj India leader Ugranarasimhegowda and Trade Union leader Chandrashekar Meti  took part in the protest today in expression of their support to the workers.
