Varsity’s NSS Wing celebrates Golden Jubilee

Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr. G. Kalpana is seen lighting the lamp at the valedictory of the golden jubilee celebrations of NSS Wing of UoM held at Senate Bhavan last evening as others look on.

Mysuru/Mysore: “NSS plays an important role in transforming the students, imbibing discipline and enriching them with a sense of service mindedness,” opined Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr. G. Kalpana.

She was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory function of University of Mysore’s (UoM) National Service Scheme (NSS)  Golden Jubilee celebrations held on Wednesday at the Senate Bhavan in Manasagangotri campus here.

“NSS students might become doctors or engineers in the future, but they should also cultivate a sense of social responsibility along with their professional lives.The main aim of NSS is youth empowerment. The goal is to better equip the youngsters for their bright future,” Kalpana said.

Speaking on the occasion, Tumakuru Ramakrishna Ashram President Swami Veereshananda Saraswatiji said, “NSS has started ‘Individual Social Responsibility’ with an objective of developing a sense of service mindedness, devotion and proficiency among the youth. Fundamental objectives of NSS have been gathered from Vedas and Upanishads.”

UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa, Dr. Gananatha Shetty Yekkar, NSS Coordinating Officer P. Chandrashekar and others were present.
