Vasu leaves a legacy of service and impact on Mysuru

March 10, 2024

Sir,

Our beloved leader Vasu has departed from us. When I last saw him recently, I was struck speechless by his condition. I couldn’t help but wonder if this would be our final encounter, though I resisted entertaining such forebodings. Yet, can we escape fate?

He was truly a leader of the people — accessible to both rich and poor, familiar faces and strangers alike, embracing friends and well-wishers as readily as critics. There was scarcely a matter concerning Mysuru that he did not possess profound insight into: From water and power supply, to park encroachments, footpath maintenance, pervasive corruption across various echelons, breaches of building regulations, the city’s developmental plans, the preservation of Chamundi Hill and the crucial task of lake conservation.

Remarkably, he displayed an extraordinary dedication to rectifying the utterly deficient sewage system — a subject devoid of glamour. Despite lacking an engineering background, he delved into the intricacies of its failures and advocated for necessary reforms. His genuine commitment to this vital issue left an indelible impression on me.

While Vasu will be remembered in Mysuru’s history for numerous contributions, his efforts to enhance the sewage system will undoubtedly leave a profound impact. Vasu was undeniably a leader cherished by all and his absence will be keenly felt.
