Vatal Nagaraj stages protest against demolition of heritage buildings

Mysore/Mysuru: Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj staged a protest along with his supporters at Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle in city on Sunday against the proposed demolition of Devaraja market and Lansdowne Building.

Speaking to presspersons, he urged the State Government to not demolish these heritage buildings and warned that Vatal Party will intensify its agitation in case the Government decides to go ahead with its decision.

“It is not correct to demolish heritage buildings. The Government should form a high-level committee consisting of experts from across the country and take steps to protect the Devaraja Market. It should be renovated in such a way that it should have a life span of another 100 years. No one should spoil the history. Lalitha Mahal Palace too should not have been converted into a hotel and neither Rajendra Vilas as a hotel,” he added.

Observing that some organisations are trying to bring ‘Bulldozer Culture’ to Karnataka, Vatal Nagaraj demanded that the Chief Minister should never allow such cultures in Karnataka.

He also expressed his displeasure at people from outside being elected from the State as Rajya Sabha members.

Kannada activists Mugur Nanjundaswamy, Tayuru Vittala Murthy and Parthasarathy took part in the protest.
