Mysuru: A two-day National Conference on “The Recent Innovations in Computing, Communication and Intelligent Systems” (RICCIS’19) organised by the Department of Computer Science, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus, was inaugurated by Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, recently at its premises in Bogadi.
In his inaugural address, the VC mainly focused on artificial intelligence, data mining and evolution of computers. Young brains of India are very essential for innovation and creative thoughts. Young researchers have a lot of opportunities and should put forth their creative inputs for betterment of the society. He called upon students to actively indulge in research which has social implications and will help solve contemporary problems in the world.
Dr. S. Murali, President, Maharaja Institute of Technology (MIT), Mysuru, who delivered the keynote address, contrasted machine intelligence to the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals. He opined that knowledge, today, is not deposited in human minds alone, but also artificially stored with the help of cloud data in devices like mobile phones. He went on to compare conventional computing technology with quantum technology by citing apt analogies.
Prof. C. Vidya Pai, Principal, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, who presided, said that in the recent NIRF 2019 ranking, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has secured 8th Rank for the second consecutive year in the University category. She also said these academic activities like conferences and workshops will help in updation and upgradation of knowledge.
Br.Sunil Dharmapal, Director and Br. Venugopal, Correspondent of Mysuru campus; Adwitiya Mukhyopadhyay, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science, were present on the occasion.
A pre-conference workshop on “Data Analytics using R: A Research Perspective” was also held as an add-on to the conference. The conference featured a session of Poster Presentation where participants presented their state-of-the-art research ideas which could benefit the society. Over 90 research papers were received for this conference from all over India.
