Mysore/Mysuru: The University of Mysore (UoM), in association with ICT Academy, conducted a three-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Teaching techniques using Gamification,’ which began on Feb. 24 at Centre for Proficiency Development and Placement Services (CDPDS) Seminar Hall at Manasagangothri premises.
Gamification is the application of typical elements of game playing (example, point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as a technique to encourage active participation.
Around 40 faculty members from affiliated institutions of UoM participated in the programme which enhanced their knowledge and help them share this knowledge to students in classrooms.
The Faculty Development Programme was jointly inaugurated by Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM; Dr. Manjunath, Director, CPDPS and D. Vishnu Prasad, State Head, Karnataka, ICT Academy.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of the technology and his experience of working with Main Frame systems during his research time. The UoM was the first in Mysuru to embrace technology and to have main frame systems for the research work of Computer Science graduates.
He highlighted that technology is now very much reachable to the faculty members and that they should embrace technology inclusion in all teaching and learning processes. He insisted faculty members update themselves with all the relevant technology and transfer the same to the student community.
The Vice-Chancellor further said that more such FDPs would be organised by the University in association with ICT Academy for faculty empowerment of all the UoM affiliated institutions.

ICT Academy was started to meet the skill requirements of the industry and generate more employment especially in Tier 2 and 3 towns. The organisation was formed with representations from the State Government of Tamil Nadu, leading companies in the ICT industry and National Association of Software Services Companies (NASSCOM) in India.
