Veerappan’s aide Simon dies of illness

Bengaluru: Simon Anthoniyappa (56), an accomplice of the slain forest brigand Veerappan, who was the prime accused in the Palar Bomb Blast case died at the prison ward in Victoria Hospital here yesterday morning.

Simon, a native of Vaddaradoddi village in Kollegal taluk, was a diabetic and was also suffering from kidney ailments. He was admitted to Victoria Hospital here on Apr. 4 after his health problem aggravated and passed away after failing to respond to the treatment.

Following the death of Simon, his relatives reached Bengaluru and the Police, after the conduct of post-mortem handed over the body of Simon to his family members.

The body was transported to his native place and the funeral will take place today at Vaddaradoddi village, according to Simon’s family members.

Simon was awarded death sentence for his role in Palar Bomb Blast in 1993 in which 22 Special Task Force (STF) personnel were killed. The Supreme Court had commuted death sentences of 15 convicts including Simon to life imprisonment.

Simon was earlier lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison and was shifted to Mysuru Prisons on Jan. 5, 2015. As he (Simon) developed kidney problem which required continuous treatment, he was shifted to Parappana Agrahara Prison on Apr. 4 and was admitted to Victoria Hospital where he died.
