Mysore/Mysuru: Outsourced vehicle drivers and watermen of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will stage a State-wide protest on Sept. 28, seeking fulfilment of their various demands, which chiefly included payment of direct wages as is being done in the case of Pourakarmikas.
Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Karnataka State Corporations, City Municipal Corporations, Town Municipal Corporations and Town Panchayats Outsourced Vehicle Drivers Association State President M.B. Nagannagowda said that more than 10,000 people were working as outsourced vehicle drivers and watermen in ULBs across the State.
Maintaining that vehicle drivers were driving garbage vehicles working in co-ordination with Pourakarmikas, he said that vehicle drivers have no job security and are barely paid minimum wages. The vehicle drivers and watermen should also be brought under the cover of direct payment just like Pourakarmikas, he said.
Nagannagowda further said that the State-wide protest on Sept. 28 will be held in front of the office of all ULBs in order to draw the attention of the Government to their demands.
Association office-bearers Raghu, Dinesh and Srinivas were present at the press meet.
