Vehicles with fake numbers on the rise

September 10, 2017

Mysuru: The number of vehicles with fake registration number plates are said to be on the rise in city resulting in genuine vehicle owners bearing the brunt of the Police and even cough up fine. Here is a classic example to prove the point.

Nadeem Ahmed Khan of Rajivnagar here while riding on his Honda Activa Scooter (KA-09 HG-7766) on Aug.19 near Ayurveda College Circle was reportedly stopped by Traffic Police and asked to pay a fine of Rs. 100 as he was found riding the vehicle on Aug.16 without a helmet on Dewan’s Road based on a CCTV footage. Nadeem averred that he never rode the scooter without a helmet. His pleas went in vain and Nadeem paid the fine to the Police.

However, the disturbed Nadeem insisted Devaraja Traffic Police to show the CCTV footage. On repeated requests, the Police yielded and showed the CCTV footage.

A shock was in store for Nadeem as the scooter in the CCTV footage was a Yamaha Fascino and not Honda Activa, but bearing the same registration number!

He has appealed Police to seize the fake numbered scooter and save him from further botheration and ordeals.

In another case, Nazeer Ahmed, a few months ago, had to cough up a fine of Rs. 900 to Cops for no fault of his. His Honda Dio scooter (KA-05 S-8143) had been duplicated in registration number for another scooter of the same brand. He too had appealed the Police.

Residents of city have expressed an apprehension that Police and RTO should act seriously on the matter as if the innocent is caught in a crime, the effect would be devastating.
