Veteran Athlete T.G. Asha

Athletics is the mother of all sporting events in the World sporting scene. Athletics contribute greatly to the development of character traits such as courage, determination, sense of achievement as well as develops personality development. Our city’s veteran women athlete T.G. Asha, representing India in the 21st Asia Masters Athletic Championships 2019, held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, won gold in the 35-plus Women’s 4x400m Relay event and did everyone proud with her effort. She is our ‘Star This Week.’

T.G. Asha, hailing from Mysuru, presently employed as a teacher in a school at Hura, Nanjangud taluk, took up athletics from an young age and has participated in many District and State Meets. Asha takes part in the 100m, 400m, 100m Hurdles and High-Jump events.

In the 21st Asian Masters Athletic Championship 2019, Asha, along with Kusuma, Maithili and Anju, won gold in the 4x400m Relay with a timing of 4.49s.

Iran took the second place and Sri Lanka secured the third place.

Asha, taking part in the 40th National Masters Athletic Championship 2019 held at Guntur, won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the 100m and 400m respectively in the women’s 35-plus category.

Asha has been a regular member of the Mysore District Masters Athletic Association (MDMAA) and has been taking part in the District and State Meets regularly and winning medals.

Encouraged by MDMAA and Masters Athletic Federation of India, and supported in her pursuits by her family, Asha intends to work hard in the days to come and improve on her performance in the veteran’s women’s section in the National and International level.
