Vidu. Dr. N.J. Nandini to perform at Ganabharathi on June 19 

Mysuru: Ganabharathi, Mysuru, has organised a grand vocal recital by Vidu. Dr. N.J. Nandini, a vibrant musician from Thiruvananthapuram, at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar on June 19 at 6 pm. 

This programme is sponsored by the family members in memory of Mahalakshmamma and Sugunamma Dayalu. 

She will be accompanied by Vidu. Sindhu Suchetan on violin, Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar on mridanga and Vid. Tumkur B. Shashishankar of ghata. 

Artistes’ profile 

Vidu. Dr. N.J. Nandini is one of the enthusiastic artistes from Thiruvananthapuram. Born into a musical family, she is the granddaughter of Vidu. Vechoor N. Harihara Subramania Iyer. Her gurus include Padma Shri Parassala B. Ponnammal, Prof. B.R. Kumar Kerala Varma, Dr. S. Bhagyalakshmi and Dr. M.N. Moorthy.  

She holds a Ph.D in Music from the University of Kerala. She is an ‘A’ grade vocalist at All India Radio (AIR), Trivandrum and is empanelled at ICCR, New Delhi.  

She has toured China as part of a Central Government delegation. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at the Maharaja’s College of Music, Kochi and a guest lecturer at Sri Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music, Trivandrum. She has received many awards and honours. She has performed concerts at the Madras Music Academy, M.S. Subbulakshmi Foundation, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Bidaram Krishnappa’s Sri Prasanna Seetharama Mandira in Mysuru. 

She runs an organisation called ‘Nayaki’ on her own, where her motto is “Today’s innovation is tomorrow’s tradition.” 

Vidu. Sindhu Suchethan is the granddaughter of the renowned Mysuru musical family’s violinist, DVV Venkatanarayana.  

A disciple of Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy and Vidu. Rajalakshmi, Vidu. Sindhu is a busy artiste on high demand. She has also studied under Vidu. Pushpa Srinivas and Vid. T.K. Srinivasan. 

She is an ‘A’ grade artiste at AIR. Having received many awards, she has also performed at the prestigious Madras Music Academy. 

Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar is the son of the late renowned mridanga player Tumkur Bhadrachar. Through his achievements and experience, he has earned a reputation as an expert mridanga player. He is an ‘A+’ grade artiste at AIR and is serving at the Mysuru Akashvani. 

Vid. Tumkur B. Shashishankar, born into a family of mridanga players, is the son of Vid. Tumkur Bhadrachar. He received his training under his elder brother, Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar and Vid. Suresh from Chennai.  

He is an ‘A’ grade artiste in mridanga and ghata at AIR and Doordarshan. From a young age, he has provided percussion accompaniment to many famous singers and has performed in India and abroad. He has received an award from the Bangalore Gayana Samaja.
