Mysuru: Ganabharathi has organised a vocal recital by the USA-based artiste, Vidu. S. Surabhi, at Ganabharathi auditorium in Kuvempunagar tomorrow (June 28) at 6 pm.
She will be accompanied by Vid. Karthikeya on violin and Vid. B.J. Srinivas on mridanga.
Artistes’ profile
Vidu. S. Surabhi has learned music continuously for 13 years under her guru a vocalist and a violinist Vidu. Tara Anand. She has also trained under Vid. K.U. Jayachandra Rao and Vid. Pattabhirama Pandit. She has won many awards in ‘Indian Raga’ contests. As a saxophone player in Western music, she performs in the Grots Hill Wind Ensemble. She is a first-year engineering student at Purdue University.
Vid. Karthikeya has practiced the violin for thirteen years under his maternal uncle, Hosahalli K. Subbarao (a disciple of Vid. Lalgudi Jayaraman). Later, he continued his studies in Bengaluru under Vid. H.V. Raghuram. He has received scholarship from Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy and bagged awards in many competitions. He has performed on famous stages such as Gayana Samaja, Fort High School and Chowdiah Memorial Hall.
Vid. B.J. Srinivas is practicing the mridanga under renowned gurus Bengaluru Praveen, Vid. T.S. Chandrashekar and currently under Vid. H.S. Sudhindra. He is an ‘Aakashvani’ (All India Radio) ‘B-High’ graded artiste. He is an awardee of Ananda Dhwani and Gayana Samaja. He has been conferred with ‘Swara Visharada’ title by Tiruchi Sabha.
