Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Royal Family Member Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar took out Vijaya Yatre on account of Vijayadashami, marking the culmination of Sharannavarathri celebrations of erstwhile royals, at Palace premises here yesterday.

Yaduveer, dressed in shiny royal robes and headgear, holding royal sword was ushered into Savari Thotti by ‘Hogalu Bhattaru,’ shouting slogans in praise of the titular king. The royal guards, carrying choli Jodi, spread the carpet for the ease of Yaduveer to reach Aane Bagilu by foot, with the playing of Mangalavadya and English Band in the backdrop.

Yaduveer placed the Royal Sword on silver chariot, signalling the beginning of Vijaya Yatre, with the staff of erstwhile royal family holding umbrella and fan for the comfort of Yaduveer. The Royal Elephant, Cow and Horse followed the Yatre, with elephants Bheema, Dhananjaya, Preethi and Chanchala adding colour to the procession reminding of the royal entourage, that was witnessed by many.

After reaching Bhuvaneshwari Temple, Yaduveer performed puja to Shami tree/ Banni tree, during the auspicious time between 11.20 am and 11.40 am, with the Priests chanting the mantra ‘Shami Vruksharajaya Namaha…’

Yaduveer received the prasada brought from various temples for the occasion, besides distributing the kaanike (remuneration) to the Priests.

Later, Yaduveer went in a procession up to Balarama Gate, before returning to the Palace to perform puja rituals to remove the kankana he had worn nine days ago on the first day of Sharannavarathri festivities.

With this, all the traditional rituals performed by the erstwhile royal family, continuing with the inherited tradition ever since Raja Wadiyar started Dasara over 414 years ago in 1610 AD, also came to an end.
