Village accountant accused of issuing false death certificate

Mysore/Mysuru: A village accountant has been accused of issuing a false death certificate of a man who died in an accident in 2018.

According to a complaint lodged on Oct. 25, 2021 by one T.R. Narendra, a resident of Talakad in T. Narasipur taluk, his (Narendra) father T. Rangegowda met with a road accident opposite CESC Office at Talakad on the afternoon of Dec. 7, 2018 in which he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Cauvery Heart and Multi-Speciality Hospital, Mysuru, for treatment. But he succumbed to injuries the following day (Dec. 8) and accordingly, the jurisdictional Mysuru City Coporation (MCC) issued the death certificate mentioning the date of death of his father Rangegowda as Dec. 8, 2018.

However, in the meantime, the then Talakad Village Accountant Prashanth, with an ulterior motive, falsely issued a death certificate of Rangegowda mentioning the date of death as Dec. 7, 2018 and place of death as Talakad, even as his father was still alive and undergoing treatment at Mysuru Hospital.

 As such, Narendra had sought action against the Tahsildar for intentionally and falsely issuing the death certificate while fully knowing that it was out of his jurisdiction. He had also sought compensation for the mental trauma that he underwent because of the false death certificate which was issued even before the death of his father.

Based on the complaint, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mysuru, wrote a letter to T. Narasipur tahsildar on Apr. 7, 2022 seeking a report on the matter.

Following the DC’s letter, the current Tahsildar Geetha conducted a probe and submitted a report a couple of days ago to the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Mysuru, (to be forwarded to the DC’s office) recommending action against the then Talakad Village Accountant Prashanth for intentional wrongdoing by issuing a false death certificate even though it was out of his jurisdiction. As in the first place, the jurisdictional MCC was the authority to issue the death certificate as Rangegowda had died in Mysuru Hosptial, it is learnt. Meanwhile, it is said that the said Village Accountant in question Prashanth has gone on deputation at Bengaluru and action will be taken against him based on the findings of the report.
