Hunsur: Two thieves, who broke into a temple, were caught by villagers, who beat them black and blue before handing them over to the Police. The incident took place on Tuesday midnight at Neralakuppe near Hanagod in the taluk.
The two thieves, who were caught, are Mohammed Anees and Daniel, both resident of Kesare in Mysuru. Two others, who had come with them, fled from the spot in the cover of darkness.
On Tuesday midnight, four thieves broke the door of Sri Mahalakshmi Temple on Hanagod-Panchavalli Main Road in Neralakuppe and entered the Temple. A few village youths, who were sleeping nearby, woke up on hearing sound and went near the temple.
As soon as the youths came near the temple, the four youths tried to flee in a Maruti Swift car, but the youths parked a tractor across the road forcing the thieves to stop the car and managed to catch hold two of them while two others managed to flee from the spot leaving the car behind.
The youths then beat them up and questioned them during which the two thieves told them that they had looted cash from a hundi and stole puja items from Omkareshwara Temple at Hebbal village. The youths, along with the villagers, then handed over the two thieves along with the car and stolen items to the Police. The Police, who took custody of the two thieves and seized stolen items, have handed over them to Judicial Custody.
