Villagers shocked as CCTV footage shows leopard carrying away chicken at Kumarabeedu

Mysuru: A villager, who was searching for his chicken which had disappeared overnight, was shocked when the CCTV footage revealed a leopard making away with chicken on June 20 morning at Kumarabeedu in the taluk.

Channanayaka, a resident of Kumarabeedu village, had reared chicken in his backyard. When he went to leave the chicken out on June 20 morning, he found it missing and the family members launched a search for it but it vain.

They then asked their neighbour, who had installed a CCTV camera to see the footage so that they may get a clue about the culprit. Channanayaka, along with his family members and his neighbour, began to look at the CCTV footage and were shocked to see a leopard entering his (Channanayaka) backyard and making away with the chicken.

The villagers, who too saw the CCTV footage, alleged that though there were frequent sighting of leopards at the foot of Chamundi Hill and Mysuru surroundings, the Forest Department had not taken any steps to capture them.

The villagers have urged Tahsildar to instruct the Forest Department officials to take precautionary measures to safeguard their livestock and their lives.
