Mysuru: One or the other problem is cropping up for setting up of a memorial for late actor ‘Sahasa Simha’ Dr. Vishnuvardhan. We will try to resolve these problems holding talks with the District Administration and the farmers, said veteran actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan.
She was addressing the media after holding discussion with Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep for more than an hour at his office here yesterday and said that both the State Government and the District Administration are making lot of efforts for setting up Vishnu Memorial. A few of the farmers (Udbur Colony on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road where the memorial is planned) have brought a stay order demanding suitable compensation for the land they are foregoing. She said that the District Administration had proposed a few ideas to the farmers to resolve problems. But farmers had gone to the court seeking relief.“I will request the farmers to part with their land for a good cause,” she said.
Asked about setting up the memorial in Abhimaan Studios in Bengaluru, she said that she had not thought about it again. “However, we want to follow the wishes of my husband who always had his heart in Mysuru and set it up here and the State Government and the District Administrations have joined hands with us,” she said.
Vishnu’s fans are agitated because of the confusion and the delay in putting up the memorial. But Bharathi expressed her confidence to sort out the problems through dialogues and not agitations.
Talks are on to provide alternative lands in different places for the land losers. However, nothing is concrete, she added.
Eight years ago when Vishnuvardhan died, his last rites were performed at Abhimaan Studios in Bengaluru. Later, his fans expressed a wish to set up Vishnu memorial in the same place. However, because of the internal squabbles among the land owners, it was not possible to build the memorial.
Following this, the State Government had alloted five acres of land for the memorial at Udbur Colony.
Since, even this land is under dispute as the farmers have gone to court, the plans to build the memorial may get further delayed.
