Medium-pacer K. Shashank from Mysuru, representing South Zone in the Vizzy Trophy Cricket Tournament, excelled with the ball with a three-wicket haul (three for 16) and along with another Mysuru lad M. Venkatesh (two for 33), helped South Zone to restrict East Zone for 191 in 45.1 overs, and score a three-wicket win, in the league-cum-knock-out tie played at Scindia School Cricket Ground, Gwalior, yesterday.
East Zone batting first scored 191 in 45.1 overs. Thanks to some good batting by Rajesh Dhuper (90) and Kartik Biswal (46) East Zone could post a decent total. K. Shashank (three for 16), UaV Varma (three for 34) and M. Venkatesh (two for 33) were the main wicket-takers for South Zone and dented their rival’s hopes.
In reply, South Zone scored 192 for seven in 43.5 overs and registered their second consecutive win by three wickets.
Abhirath Reddy (51) and S.N. Rajkumar (60) were the main scorers. Skipper Aditya Somanna remained not out on 28.
