Vocal concert by two young artistes at Ganabharathi

Mysuru: Ganabharathi has organised a vocal concert by two young promising artistes Vidushi Thanmayee and Vidwan V. Balakrishnan on July 14 (Friday) at its Veene Seshannna Bhavan, Kuvempunagar at 6 pm. They will be accompanied by Vidwan C. N. Tyagarajan on the violin and Vidwan Saishivu on the mridangam.

Profile: Thanmayee, a disciple of Vidwan T. M. Krishna, started learning music from her mother Vidushi Rajalakshmi, aunt Vidushi Rajarajeshwari Bhat and Vidushi Srividya Ramanath, in Bengaluru. Being one of the top young artistes, she has performed at all major Sabhas and music festivals in Karnataka, Chennai and USA.

A B-High graded artiste in the All India Radio, she is a recipient of many awards like Yuva Kala Mani  Award, M. S. Subbulakshmi Award and Kishora Pratibha Award. She is a Computer Science graduate from NITTE Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Ethnomusicology from the University of North Texas, Denton.  

Balakrishnan, the grandson of  late Karaikkudi K.V. Krishnamurthy Iyer, a well-known vocalist, started learning Karnatak vocal at the age of 3, under Mala Ganesh, Vidwan late Sangeethabhooshanam N. Ramamurthy Bhagavatar of Delhi and is currently under the guidance of Delhi P. Sunderrajan.  He has been blessed with the title Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. He is a software engineer by profession and has performed in major Sabhas.
