Ashwini Nachappa to inaugurate

Mysore/Mysuru: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Mysuru Regional Centre, will be hosting the four-day 25th State-level Inter- University Athletic Meet for Men and Women from June 26, said VTU Regional Director Dr. T.P. Renukamurthy,  here on Friday.

Addressing media persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, he said that the event would be inaugurated by international athlete and Arjuna awardee Ashwini Nachappa at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at 10 am and added that VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar would preside.

Stating that about 1,500 to 2,000 athletes were expected to participate in the event, Dr. Renukamurthy said that 21 committees comprising teaching and non-teaching staff had been formed for the smooth conduct of the event and added for the first time, photo-finish technology would be used to determine the winners in athletic events.

VTU has also deployed about 200 sports officers as referees for the events. VTU will also be presenting 25 gram, 20 gram and 15 gram pure silver medals for the athletes placed first, second and third place respectively. The athletic events will be broadcast live in the University’s                            YouTube channel. 

VTU Organising Secretary Prasanna Kumar, MBA Unit Head Dr. M.S. Yathish, Dr. G.F. Ali Ahmed and Sports Co-ordinator Raghunath were present in the press meet.
