Walkathon for young elders in city

Mysuru: As part of National Sports Week, Big Bazaar had organised a walkathon for young elders at its outlet in Gokulam Mall at Jayalakshmipuram here this morning.

The walkathon was held simultaneously in four cities across the State including Mysuru and Bengaluru.

The event was held to spread the message of healthy living among young elders, besides highlighting the importance of exercise and active lifestyle.

About 150 elderly persons aged above 58 years took part in the walkathon, which was flagged off by Store Manager H.L. Mamatha.

The walkathon passed through Hunsur Road, St. Joseph’s School, BSNL Office and Jayalakshmipuram 7th Main before culminating at the starting point covering a distance of one kilometer.

The walkathon was supported by Elder Citizens Club, Yoga Association and Park Walkers Association. 60-year-old Usha Raj of Gokulam, was declared the winner followed by 66-year-old Arjun Kinekar of Vijayanagar in the   second place.

While the winner was presented with a gift voucher worth Rs. 1000, the runner up was presented with a gift voucher worth Rs. 500. All the participants were given certificates along with a gift.
