This refers to the news item titled ‘Establishment of Ward Committees in 10 wards’ (SOM dated May 6). This initiative is a brilliant idea. By involving residents directly, they become accountable for the well-being of their respective wards.

It has become apparent that the MCC Commissioner has been unresponsive to the pleas of citizens regarding various issues such as cratered roads, stray cattle, water supply, sewage management, garbage disposal, property tax, cleanliness, hygiene and electricity supply.

Given the current dismal state of our city, it seems that the MCC Commissioner lacks interest or concern for addressing these pressing problems. Therefore, the introduction of Ward Committees, based on the principle of ‘by the people, of the people and for the people,’ holds great promise for making our city more liveable and clean.

I hope that by promptly appointing ward committees, the MCC Commissioner can pave the way for significant improvements. Perhaps, with such initiatives, our city can climb up the Swachhata ranking in the future.
