We are aged but our strength is not diminished: Elders

Mysuru:  “We are aged, but our strength and stamina is not diminished,” said senior citizens, who took part in the District-level Senior Citizens Sports competition, organised jointly by the Department for Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens and Mysuru District Senior Citizens Welfare Association as part of Senior Citizens’ Day celebration  at J.K. Grounds in city yesterday.

The sports competition was organised for senior citizens aged between 60 and 85 years who took part in fast walking race, running race, shot-put and throwing the cricket ball.

Participants, who bagged the first place in various sports are now eligible to take part in the State-level Senior Citizens sports competitions.

The winners of various competitions are: Men 60 to 70 years category: 100 mts. running race – B.K. Somashekar (First), C.S. Madaiah (Second) and Ganesh Shetty (Third). Shot-Put – A.B. Subbaiah (First), C.S. Madaiah (Second) and K.C. Somashekar (Third).

Men 71 to 80 years category: 75 mts. running race – K. Govindaiah (First), M.R. Srinivas (Second) and A.B. Nanjappa (Third). Shot-Put – A.B. Nanjappa (First), M.B. Aiyappa (Second) and M.B. Ankegowda (Third).

Men 80 years and above: 200 mts. walk – C. Chamashetty (First), P.S. Subbarayappa (Second) and N. Veeraiah (Third). Throwing the cricket ball – N. Veeraiah (First), N. Ramaiah (Second) and C. Chamashetty (Third).

Women 60 to 70 years: 400 mts. walk – B.C. Parvathi (First), K.S. Ramamani (Second) and K.S. Lakshmi (Third). Throwing cricket ball – Dr. B. Nirmala (First), B.C. Parvathi (Second) and N.K. Rukmini (Third).

Women 71 to 80 years: 200 mts. walk – Manonmani (First), K.S. Seethamma (Second) and Bharati S. Kamat (Third). Throwing the cricket ball – Bharati S. Kamat (First), M.K. Kaamini (Second) and S. Padma (Third).

Women 80 years and above: 100 mts. walk and Throwing cricket ball – Latha Sharma bagged the first prize as she was the lone participant in the category.

Over 100 men and 60 women took part in the competitions which was inaugurated by Women and Child Welfare Deputy Director K. Radha.
