Webinar on ‘COVID: Alarms conserving environment and cleanliness’

Mysore/Mysuru: Seshadripuram Degree College, Mysuru, in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NSS Cell, Field Outreach Bureau, Mysuru, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Achievers Academy, Srirangapatna and Bhavaisiri Organisation, had organised a Webinar on ‘COVID: Alarms conserving environment and cleanliness’ yesterday through Google Meet.

The Webinar began with an invocation of Environment Song by Nagashree Thyagaraj. Dr. T.C. Poornima, Deputy Director, Filed Outreach Bureau, Mysuru, was the convener of the programme. She spoke briefly about the Environmental issues seen from past ten years and the role of World Organisation with the theme of ‘One Earth’ which started in 1972 with the motto to save nature by Reimagining, Recreating and Restoring activities.

Prof. K. Sowmya Erappa, Principal, Seshadripuram Degree College, in her inaugural address, shared light on environmental awareness with the views of Mahatma Gandhi and great environmental activist Sundarlal Bahuguna.

She shared her major concern on environmental exploitation in the times of COVID-19 pandemic. Where adverse use of plastics in the form masks, chemicals, sanitisers, soaps and pesticides have resulted in the pollution of nature, damages to rivers and deforestation. 

She concluded by giving a call to students for actively participating in environmental concerned activities through NSS, NCC, Walkathons and Cyclothons.

Dr. R. Raghavendra, COVID-19 NSS Special Nodal Officer, Mandya district, was the resource person for the programme. He spoke at length regarding the environmental conservation and metal health in the times of COVID-19 pandemic. 

He emphasised on the futuristic approaches needed to balance the ecosystem by taking precautionary measures like growing trees, raising saplings, consuming nutritious organic food, usage of environment-friendly products, maintenance of plastic-free surroundings and having harmony with nature.

He elaborated on the importance of mental health and social responsibilities of every individual in the times of COVID-19 pandemic. The need to follow a healthy lifestyle by practicing Yoga, Walking, Jogging, Aerobics, lung exercises, proper ventilation and oxygen supplies.

He concluded by appreciating the efforts of family members, friends, neighbours and volunteers in motivating the COVID-19 Positive individuals in building mental strength, overcome stress, overthrow loneliness and eradication                                                          of discrimination.

Volunteers of Bhavaisiri, teaching and non-teaching staff members, NCC & NSS volunteers and students of Seshadripuram Degree College attended the webinar.
