Mysuru: Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha is presenting a Karnatak Vocal-cum-Sankeerthana and a Veena concert this weekend at Mysore K. Vasudevacharya Bhavana on JLB Road in city.
Aug. 22 (5.30 pm): Vocal and Sankeerthana by Vid. Dr. R. Ganesan of Chennai. He will be accompanied by Vid. R. Achyutha Rao on violin, Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy on mridanga and Vid. M.R. Manjunath on ghata.
Vid. Dr. Ganesan hails from the great lineage of eminent composers Kavikunjara Bharathi and Kotteeswara Iyer. Dr. Ganesh is the direct Guru Kula Vaasa disciple of ‘Sangeetha Kalanidhi’ Maharajapuram Santhanam. His guru for Namasankeerthanam is Sethalapathy Soundararaja Bhagavathar, an encyclopaedia of sampradaya bhajan. A Veterinary Doctor, he voluntarily took up the divine path of music and namasankeerthana.
Dr. Ganesan has been conferred upon with prestigious awards like Maharajapuram Memorial Prize, G.R. Chari Memorial Prize, Shri Nataraja Iyer Memorial Award, Sangitha Chinthamani, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Gnana Sangeetha Mani, Isai Arasar, the Youth Excellence award etc. An A-Top grade artiste of AIR and DD, Ganesan is involved in the noble cause of renovation of old temples by donating remunerations from his ‘Irai Isai Payanam’ programme series.
Aug. 23 (6 pm): Karnatak Classical Veena Concert by Vid. R.K. Padmanabha. He will be accompanied by Vid. C. Cheluvaraju on mridanga and Vid. R. Gurumurthy on ghata.
Vid. R.K. Padmanabha comes from a family of eminent musicians and is the son of renowned Asthana Vidwan. Vainika Praveena Vid. R.S. Keshavamurthy and was trained in vocal as well as Veena by his father.
The ‘Kanaka Rajatha Saraswathi Akananda Veena’ played by him is primordial and priceless art craft with the gold idol of Saraswathi, earlier belonged to Vainika Praveena Bhakshi Subbanna, the guru of R.S. Keshavamurthy.
An ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and DD, Vid. Padmanabha has extensively performed in prestigious sabhas and won several awards and honours.
