Weekend treat at Rangayana

Mysuru: While the District Administration is offering a variety of entertainment programmes during the 10-day Mysuru Winter Festival starting from today (Dec. 23), the city-based theatre repertory Rangayana will be staging three different plays this weekend and on Christmas day to make the  long weekend holiday more special. The plays will be staged at Bhoomigeeta between Dec. 23 and Dec.25 at 6.30 pm daily.

Today, the students of Bharatiya Rangashikshana Kendra, Rangayana will be staging the play ‘Venisamhara,’ authored by Bhattanarayana and directed by Saliyana Umesh Narayana. H.K. Dwarkanath has provided the stage design while Mahesh Kallathi has designed the lights. Ganesh and M. Subrahmanya Mysuru have scored the music.

On Dec. 24, Senior Rangayana artistes will stage ‘Shikari’ directed by actor Prakash Belawadi. H.K. Dwarkanath has designed the sets while K.J. Pavan has composed music. Sankeerthi Ipanjiguli has designed costumes and lights by Mahesh Kallathi.

On Monday, the last of the three-day event will feature Rangayana Touring Artistes staging the play ‘Project Adithi.’

The play, originally written in Marathi by Vibhavari Deshpande, has been translated to Kannada by Senior Rangayana artiste Santosh Kumar Kusanooru. The play has been directed by Pramod Kaale and Vedantha Ranade. The set has been designed by H.K. Dwarkanath, costume by B.N. Shashikala. Srinivasa Bhat (Cheeni) has composed the music for this play.
