Glasgow: Indian weightlifter Lovepreet Singh, who set a games record in snatch by lifting 176 kg, narrowly missed gold by a one kg as he could manage a total lift of 388 kg combing both snatch and clean and jerk in the men’s 110 kg category, here yesterday.   

Lovepreet lifted 176kg in snatch before managing 212kg in clean and jerk for a total of 388kg. New Zealand’s David Liti won gold with 389kg while England’s Andrew Griffiths took bronze with a total of 356kg.

In women’s discus throw,  Seema Kaliramna clinched a bronze medal with 58.65 meter. Jamaica’s Samantha Hall won the gold with a Games-leading throw of 61.66 meter, while Canada’s Julia Tunks took silver with 60.67 meter.

At the end of Day 8, India were placed 10th in the medal tally with 17 medals which includes three gold, 10 silver and four bronze.
