Sir,
This refers to the frequent announcements by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) regarding power outages that stretch from morning to evening, disrupting businesses and commercial activities while causing significant inconvenience to domestic users who rely heavily on uninterrupted power supply.
Electricity Department undertakes these so-called ‘maintenance’ works, but it’s very unclear what exactly happens during these periods. I’d like to highlight a couple of issues that arise during such power cuts.
Firstly, the time mentioned in the announcements is often misleading. Power is usually restored one to one-and-a-half hours beyond the announced schedule. Recently, in our locality, a power cut was announced from 10 am to 5.30 pm, but electricity was only restored by 6.30 pm, causing additional frustration for the users.
Another issue I’ve observed is that power cuts become more frequent after these so-called ‘maintenance’ works. Power outages tend to occur multiple times, often lasting for days or even weeks after the maintenance is supposedly completed. This is sheer hypocrisy — what is intended to improve standards seems to actually lead to a deterioration in service.
This reflects the negligence and lack of accountability on the part of officials and those responsible for maintenance, including engineers. I hereby request the officials of CESC and KPTCL to look into this issue and take necessary action.
