Wheelie on Ring Road: Four including minor arrested

Mysore/Mysuru: Traffic Police personnel from various Traffic Police Stations have apprehended four youngsters for engaging in a dangerous wheelie on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Among the cases filed, Siddartha Traffic Police have registered one case, Narasimharaja (NR) Traffic Police have registered two cases and Krishnaraja (KR) Traffic Police Station has registered one case. The motorcycles used to perform the wheelie have been confiscated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-Traffic) Parashuramappa, speaking to Star of Mysore, stated: “Cases have been filed against these individuals for reckless and negligent riding in public, under IPC Section 279. Four individuals, including a minor, have been arrested.”

The arrested individuals, identified as Mohammed Anas, a resident of Saligrama, Tousif Khan, Goutham and the minor were staying together in a room at N.R. Mohalla. They uploaded photos and videos of themselves performing the wheelie on the ORR on social media platforms, leading to their identification and subsequent arrest.

Due to an increase in cases involving young individuals performing dangerous stunts on their motorcycles on the ORR, near college campuses, causing disturbances to others, as well as instances of eve-teasing and loud noise generated by modified silencers, the Traffic Police have taken proactive measures.

They have intensified vehicle inspections and are filing FIRs against those engaged in wheelie, in addition to making arrests. Some individuals who perform such dangerous stunts on the ORR tend to share photos and videos on social media.

By tracing the registration numbers of the motorcycles visible in the uploaded content, the Police are identifying the owners and filing cases against them, along with apprehending those involved in performing stunts on public roads, ACP Parashuramappa explained.

Furthermore, ACP Parashuramappa emphasised that the Traffic Police have intensified their efforts and are not only focusing on traffic rule violations but also conducting checks for modified silencers, defective number plates, as well as instances of reckless and negligent riding causing inconvenience to others. They are taking legal action against such offenders.
