When R.K. Narayan raised School Bag weight issue in Parliament

Mysuru:  Renowned novelist from Mysuru R.K. Narayan had raised the issue of school bag weight in the Rajya Sabha in the late 1980s.

Narayan, who created some of the most memorable stories about childhood, argued for abolition of the school bag. Such a measure should be the beginning of a wider reform in school education.

The celebrated novelist felt that education is a means to achieve internal freedom and internal freedom is defined as an ability to think rationally and express creatively. He always used to say that classroom-confined, examination-oriented and syllabi-specific education system is stifling this rational thought and creative expression.
