White-topping works must ensure safety

Sir,

I wish to draw the attention of the authorities to the hazardous traffic situation on the stretch from Silk Factory to Srirampura Ring Road Junction in Mysuru.

This is a two-way road where one carriageway is currently being converted from a tar road to a concrete road (white-topping). As the work is still in progress, all vehicles, including city buses and heavy vehicles, were initially diverted to the opposite carriageway.

Now, a portion of the concrete road has been completed, but the work is still unfinished. Construction materials such as bricks, mud and debris continue to occupy parts of the road.

Despite this, vehicles have started using both carriageways. This has created confusion, as motorists are unable to anticipate which side oncoming vehicles, especially buses, will use.

The lack of proper traffic management and clear direction poses a serious risk of accidents.

While the public understands that road development is necessary, safety during the construction period is equally important.

The authorities should immediately deploy traffic personnel, install proper barricades and directional signboards and regulate vehicle movement until the road is fully completed.

Another concern is that several roads across Mysuru remain in poor condition after underground drainage or water pipeline works. Even after the utility work is completed, many roads are not restored promptly, causing inconvenience to commuters and increasing the risk of accidents.

I request the authorities concerned to give priority to public safety, complete the ongoing road works at the earliest and ensure that roads damaged during utility works are restored without unnecessary delay.
