Whither City Traffic?

Sir,

Mysuru city traffic is in utter chaos. Traffic signals, one way traffic and most of the No Parking Zones are just a namesake. Every major road corner is converted as auto stand, occupying both sides of the roads. Footpaths are display places for shops/ establishments and people are forced to use busy roads to walk risking their lives.

If one follows traffic lights, he/she is sure of getting hit either by a two-wheeler or an auto. No one to care. One-way roads starting from Saraswathipuram, Vinoba Road, Devaraj Urs Road, Narayana Shastri Road are used by two-wheeler riders, goods autos, autorickshaws as two ways. If you question; all sorts of invectives are used against you and many times one gets threats too. It appears, for Police, collection of penalty for helmetless riding or not wearing seat belt is the major job! How long can this go on?

If Traffic Police cannot enforce traffic rules, who else can? Shortage of staff cannot be an excuse! Technology has simplified many of our day-to-day work. I am sure, CCTV cameras installed on most part of the city roads can be used to penalise traffic offenders. Simultaneously, educating the road-users should be given a priority as getting a Driving Licence is not a problem.

Hope, authorities concerned initiate immediate action and put the city traffic in order, by eliminating the confusion and total mess.
