Why pay toll for pathetic roads on Mysuru-Nanjangud Highway?

Sir,

With deep anguish and pain I write here about the ‘illegal’ toll collection on Mysuru-Nanjangud National Highway (NH) for the last two years. The reason why I say it is ‘illegal’ is that there are a 100-plus potholes and 200-plus places where the road has chipped off. Is this why we pay for tolled roads?

When we confront the Toll Operator he claims that his duty is only to collect toll and not repair/maintenance of road. He will collect toll till his allotted time-frame. When we ask details of the concerned person, they don’t divulge any information.

There was a time last year where there was a trench of 50 metres. It pains to pay toll for such pathetic roads.

Hope a proper investigation will be done by the authorities concerned who in turn will take the NHAI engineer concerned to task and restore the road.

As there is no non-tolled road or service road to Nanjangud from Mysuru, I have to pay Rs.50 per trip if I have to go to my farm in Nanjangud which is 25 kms and very expensive too.

The Transport Ministry has made FASTag mandatory but why should common people pay for unmaintained roads? The Government is only worried about road tax collection but not providing good motorable roads.
