Wild elephant attacks van; occupants injured

Virajpet: Occupants of a van had a miraculous escape when a wild elephant attacked the vehicle and damaged it in Karada village limits near here. 

One M. Ashok of Palangala village was proceeding in his Maruti van along with his family members consisting women and children to a temple at Maletirike Hill in Karada village and when they were proceeding on the narrow stretch of the road at the foot of the hill, a wild elephant suddenly attacked the van, gored it with its tusks and damaged the vehicle. 

Luckily, Ashok, along with two women and four children, escaped miraculously but the women have suffered minor injuries in the incident. Passersby, who saw the elephant attacking the van, began to shout and made noise, which made the elephant retreat into the forest. The injured have been treated at Virajpet General Hospital. Range Forest Officer (RFO) K.M. Devaiah and staff visited the spot and collected information about the incident. A case has been registered at Virajpet Rural Police Station.
