Wild elephants destroy standing crops

Hunsur: Wild elephants, which raided the agricultural fields at villages bordering Anechowkur in Nagarahole National Park on Saturday, have destroyed the standing crops causing losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees to the farmers.

Though the Forest Department has undertaken repair works of elephant trenches to prevent wild elephants from entering the fields, elephants are still raiding the agricultural fields causing huge losses to the farmers. The herd of elephants, which entered the field of Kumar and Santosh at Lakshmipura, have eaten maize, grown in the two acre and one acre plot besides stamping the crops and destroying it.

This apart, the elephants are raiding the agricultural fields at Muddanahalli, Uthenahalli and Alalur villages bordering the forest and eating away the crops besides destroying them. This has also created a sense of fear among the villagers.

The Forest Department officials visited the spot and conducted mahazar.
