Wins gold medal at State Karate Championship

State No. 1, Khelo India University Games silver medallist and city’s Karate Champion Deia Urs, who took part in the State Championship organised by the Akhila Karnataka Sports Karate Association at the newly renovated Koramangala Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru on Nov. 5 and 6, has bagged gold medal in Individual Kata.

The Championship was to select the best players to represent the State in the upcoming National Championship to be held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, in December 2022.

Twenty female competitors in the senior individual kata category were divided into two pools of 10 each. After the performance, the top 2 karatekas in each group qualified for the finals. 

Deia Urs entered the finals topping her group by securing 25.20 points. In the finals, Deia Urs won gold by securing 25.60.  Chaitrashree of Bengaluru took silver with 22.80 points, Khushboo Jain and Lavanya Markal of Dharwad took bronze medals by securing 22.60 and 22.20 points respectively.

Deia Urs, who holds a 4th Degree Black Belt, is trained by her father B.S. Srinath Urs, certified and accredited national coach. Both practice under AISKU President C.S. Arun Machaiah.
