Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru lad Mustafa Raja won the 2023 U-16 Tennis British Columbia (B.C.) Indoor Provincial Championships in both the Singles and Doubles categories.
Tournament was played at the North Vancouver Tennis Club in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
Top 16 U-16 players from the province qualified to play for the coveted Provincials which is held to choose top 5 players to represent British Columbia at the Tennis Canada Nationals.
Mustafa seeded fourth in the Singles draw defeated the No. 1 seeded Owen Nguyen in the semi-finals with the score 4,6 6,1 and 6,1.
In the finals, Mustafa defeated the second seeded Gary Jiang with the score of 4,6 6,1 and 6,3.
By virtue of this win, Mustafa qualifies to play the U-16 Tennis Canada Nationals.
In the Doubles category, Mustafa, partnering with Eric Wang, defeated the top seeded pair of Owen and Gelan Su with the score 6,3 and 6,1.
Mustafa will travel to Las Vegas, United States of America (USA) and Mexico to play three ITF Junior Tournaments to be held in March.
Mustafa moved to Canada in 2019. He used to train at the Nagaraj Tennis Centre at SJCE College campus and was a student at Excel Public School in Mysuru.
