Mysuru: A woman, unable to bear the harassment at her husband’s house, committed suicide by hanging self at the house in Raghavendranagar here on Dec.20.
The deceased is Hemavathi (36), wife of Shivaram of Raghavendranagar.
According to the complaint lodged by Hemavathi’s father Chikkathammegowda with Nazarbad Police, Hemavathi, a native of Baburayanakoppal near Srirangapatna, was given in marriage to Shivaram 10 years ago and the couple have a nine-year-old daughter.
He has further stated that Hemavathi was being tortured since the day of marriage and on Dec.20, she (Hemavathi) had called him (Chikkathammegowda) over the phone and had told him about the torture.
After half-an-hour, Shivaram called his (Chikkathammegowda) daughter-in-law Puneetha Kumari and told her that Hemavathi had hung herself and when he took her to the hospital, the doctors declared her dead.
Chikkathammegowda in his complaint has urged the Police to take legal action on those responsible for his daughter’s death. Nazarbad Police, who have registered a case, have taken Shivaram into custody and are investigating.
