Woman ends life by jumping into water sump

Unable to bear mounting debts, a woman committed suicide by jumping into a sump at an under-construction building at Kumbarakoppalu under Metagalli Police limits early this morning.

The woman has been identified as 40-year-old Saraswathi, wife of Mahesha, a resident of Kumbarakoppalu. Mahesh runs a laundry in the area. According to the Police and Mahesh, Saraswathi left her house at around 6.30 am and Mahesh thought that she would gone out after waking up.

She then went to an under-construction building nearby and opened the 8X4X10 ft. sump and jumped into it. This morning a few workers, who came for sump cleaning works at 7.30 am, noticed the body and informed the Police. After preliminary enquiries, the Police found out that the body was that of Mahesh’s wife.

Mahesh told the Police that he was searching for his wife as she left home pretty early. He said that Saraswathi had borrowed loans and was in deep debt. Financiers were pestering her to return the money and this had led to frequent quarrels at home and yesterday too, they had fought over the issue, he said. Metagalli Inspector Sunil Kumar and staff retrieved the body and shifted it to MMC&RI mortuary.
