Woman ends life: Parents suspect murder, lodge complaint

Mysuru: A 23-year-old housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging self at her husband’s house at Yeraganahalli here yesterday and her parents, who have accused her husband and his family members of murdering her for dowry, have lodged a complaint at Alanahalli Police Station.

The deceased housewife is Sowmya, wife of Shivu, a driver and a resident of Yeraganahalli here. She was two months pregnant. Meanwhile, Shivu’s family members called her parents over the phone and told them to come immediately to a private hospital on Bannur Road as Sowmya had committed suicide.

Her parents, who rushed to city, lodged a dowry harassment complaint at Alanahalli Police Station against Shivu, his mother Gowramma, brother Mani, sister-in-law Savitha and their relative Puttaswamy.  

According to the complaint, Sowmya, a native of Maarashettyhalli in Varuna hobli, was given in marriage to Shivu a year back. The complaint further stated that Shivu was given dowry and the marriage was held in a  grand manner.

Alanahalli Inspector Manjunath, who has registered a case in this regard, has launched a hunt to nab Shivu and his family members, who are absconding and the body of Sowmya was shifted to MMC&RI mortuary for post-mortem, according   to the Police.
