Woman gets 10-year jail for false rape case

Indore: The Second Additional Sessions Court in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, has sentenced a 45-year-old woman to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI), besides imposing a fine of Rs. 2,000 after she was convicted of filing a false rape case against her relative.

The convict named Seema Bai Singh who was on bail, was whisked away by the Police to prison soon after the verdict.

Bai, a widow, living in Barkheda Kotapai village had filed a rape complaint against the 33-year-old son of her brother-in-law at Barotha Police Station, Dewas, on June 3, 2017. However during investigation, Police found it to be a false case. Interestingly, Bai had also produced a wrong evidence in Court during the trial.

On June 18, 2019, a local Court concluded that the rape complaint was false and ordered filing of a case against Seema under IPC Sections 182, 211 and 195 for wrong information and fabricating false evidence.

“The Court of Second Additional Sessions Judge, Dewas, convicted Seema Bai Singh, under IPC Section 195 for lodging a fake rape complaint and producing wrong evidence and sentenced her to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs. 2,000”, the District Prosecution Officer said.
